Not wanting to cancel due to weather, the Giant Pine Trail Snowshoe on Feb. 23rd was quite the experience for us.  Driving there, Scott Lake Road had 10" of unplowed snow to drive through.  We came upon a downed tree on Giant Pine Trail Rd.  Out came the hand saws. Taking off the main branches, we pushed the trunk against the 5 ft tall snowbank and then drove off.
The trail was previously snowshoed, thank goodness. The surrounding snow was at least a yard deep and there was a foot of snow on top the trail. A few of us took turns leading, pressing down onto this new snow. Two of us, not saying who, got partially buried in the soft snow when we had to go off trail.  We passed by hundreds of year old white pines, one of which recently had it's crown taken off, huge hemlocks and yellow birch, and snow covered fir trees.

It took a good 2 hours and lots of sweat to snowshoe about 2 miles. We all agreed as we sat down to lunch afterwards at Sunset Grill that it was a totally worthwhile adventure!
